A big part of my working process is pure experimentation. I puzzle together the pieces, and then I play around with them by holding them up on the dress form or on myself and snapping a picture. I prefer taking snapshots because so many times I have done something awesome once, only to completely forget how I did it or what it was like!
I have plenty more of these photos, and I'll post them up later!

I sew mostly for my teen daughter (she loves anime/renaissance costumes, big boots, various forms of punk and lolita, etc.) and it is great to learn how real designers and artists work. (My icon is a tiny mermaid costume that I designed and made for my niece's new baby girl.) Thank you for sharing these and I am looking forward to more pics. Your work is so beautiful and so inspiring. Seeing your creative designs in sketches/pieces/completed form inspires me to try new techniques. :)
sigh.
Your workmanship is great! I really love the experimental wave patterns.
This is so interesting.

Boy do I sympathize! I'm curious - what kind of interfacing or stiffener did you use on the white fans? I love the body it gave them.
Did you do every one of those dresses in muslin first and then in the real fabric??????
That would have taken forever.
I love the snapshot idea. I design too and never thought to do it that way. Hmmm, you've got my brain thinking...
I love being able to peek in on your process. Wonderful work Leanne!
I have just started using photographs during the design process... it gives me a whole different perspective!
