studio snapshots

More shots of the work-in-progress when I was creating what I like to refer to as the monster-gown. I ended up having to cut each and every one of those petals out, and I was going to use those scraps on another dress, but they ended up as some really cool swiss cheese curtains instead! Also, yes, the machine I prefer to work on is a very cheap basic home-sewing machine. I know it's silly, but I prefer them. Mainly because if and whenever they ever break, I can usually repair them myself instead of having to call in a service guy, which is kind of nice.

Tip: I also just posted a couple of samples up on Etsy, which will probably go fast. There will likely be some more after New Years.

What do you use to cut your circles? I have recently been on a ruffle/petal wreath making binge, and i have wondered if there is some special circle-cutting contraption or if you just have to do the outline as if it were any other cut?

OH MY! those weren't ruffles! they were little tiny circles! that ridiculously awesome. how do you keep from going blind from the detail you put into these?

How are those circles not fraying around the edges? Your work and your curtains are beautiful!

It's all about the rotary cutter with a cutting mat. It makes cutting circular shapes, or any shapes soooo much easier. I usually fold the fabric in half once or twice if the blade will go through that many layers and just free-hand a half-circle. Hope that helps!

i have that sewing machine, but i don't know how to work it yet! love the wedding dress you designed. 3 weeks of all nighters were well worth it!

Hi, I just read this post and I was wondering if you could provide the exact model of the Singer you use. My cousin wants to invest in a sewing machine, but she is a beginner and doesn't want to spend too much money on an extravagant one. I thought of you since you do professional work =)

I just found your blog. I'm a huge fan! I'm just learning to sew, and recently got a Singer for Christmas. So excited to see that you use a Singer too!

I second that request for the Singer model number. Thanks!
